Vine stock no. 58 is considered to be the original stock of the Riesling-Silvaner variety, also known as Müller-Thurgau. It was crossed in Geisenheim in 1882 by Hermann Müller-Thurgau and later propagated in Wädenswil. A direct descendant of the original vine still stands today at the vineyard of the former Federal Research Institute in Wädenswil.
On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of Hermann Müller-Thurgau, the history of the most successful white wine cross in the world has been reappraised. The Müller-Thurgau Experience Association reports on the exciting findings first hand at the legendary vine.
